Jim Crow Era and Laws

The Jim Crow Era and Laws were a set of laws established around 1877 & mid 1960’s, that made black citizens 2nd class citizens. Looking back at this and they way they treated black citizens was very unlawful and not fair. They Oppressed of blacks, saying blacks are lesser than whites. The laws were put into effect after the end of the Civil War and slavery, some white people felt threatened because of this. This was created to separate whites and blacks. Jim Crow was a s system of a series of anti black laws. They had sundown towns are all white neighborhoods in the US that practiced a form of segregation by enforcing restrictions, it has increased since, it made it impossible to count the exact number of sundown towns at any given time (they had curfews).

If they were not in by their curfew they were in danger. A big thing at the time was Racial Gerrymandering, it was used during this era a lot. It deprived black people of political power. It was an unfair system that needed to be fixed. There are new Jim Crow laws today that has changed for what it use to be. African Americans do not have this problem anymore and have every rights whites have to this day.
